Well, I was going to write something about Christmas, but I fell across this quote from Pride and Prejudice, so that comes first. "A girl likes to be crossed in love a little now and then." Interesting...and perhaps true?

Anyway, so it's that time of year, and I'm sure none of you are thinking about Christmas in the same way that you did when you were a kid. Long story short (well, not a long story...whatever), I made this list. If you guys have any add-ons, leave them in a comment. I just think it's nice for us to stop being selfish about our problems for, like, two seconds.
What is Christmas?
-snow!
-tv specials (especially those old-school cartoons), the movie Prancer, and the book The Story of Santa Claus
-schtollen (my oma's Christmas cake. Mmmmm...)
-Christmas Eve with the family
-walking around Pointe Claire Village at night with the Christmas lights
-corny carols and carol covers
-our Charlie Brown Christmas tree (I swear, it gets smaller every year. I can see the window through it quite clearly)
-the one day where no one is mean to each other
-eggnog
-making gingerbread houses (let's face it, it's all downhill after you've made it)
-Santa (preferably the drunk Santa that Pointe Claire Village used to employ)

Imagine going through an ordeal like that...how often do we actually have to fend for our lives...run away from being shot? It's just something most of us never have, and never will experience.

Most of the people from my high school went to Dawson, and I called up my friends as soon as I could to see if they were ok. Thanks to every God there is out there that they're all fine, although a guy from my high school was shot (grazed) in the arm.
WTF? So, my iPod came in the mail, and I'm setting up the software. But lo and behold, my computer only has a 1.0 USB port, and you need a 2.0 port to connect the iPod to the computer. I want to DIE. Now I have to spend an additional 50 bucks on a port on a computer that has no memory as it is. Argle.

Please tell me there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Ok, obviously I sound like a spoiled brat, but the aforementioned problem is just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
So, New York was quite good. I have NEVER laughed so hard in my entire life...I have enough jokes to last a few millenia. Best part of the trip: we went to the MET, and I'm walking along with Eliana, you know, checking out some paintings and all that jazz. Then suddenly this woman walks by. Eliana and I look at each other with the same shocked expression as we realize this is Emma Thompson! So we followed her, and got her autograph...she was the sweetest lady ever. She was all: "I hope I haven't given you whatever nasty cold I have!" Ummm, it's Emma Thompson; she can give me the bubonic plague for all I care!

We went to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway...pretty good. I did the usual New York stuff: I bought a hot dog (good shit!), and bought some fake Louis Vuitton purses for my mom and stepsister. That was an interesting one; I followed this guy into a ghetto van that had these 2 tiny chairs and shelves of purses. My friends were terrified (sorry, Eliana, if you read this. Feel better in knowing that Ellen is a tapestry), but it was pretty exciting.

Greenwich Village is the shiznit, though. When I go back to New York, I'm staying there and not in Times Square. We went to this vintage clothing store, and my friend got accosted by Orthodox Jews; they gave her candles and the name of some rabbi in Montreal, and kept going on about the Messiah. Our roommate, who's a German exchange student, was elated by the experience, because apparently before coming to Montreal, she'd never met a Jewish person. Which is really kind of scary to think about...

Anyway, no one really actually cares about my hyperactive ramblings, (I hate only updating when I'm angry) but if you read through this, good on you. La-dee-da.

I'm leaving for NYC tomorrow! I wish I had a functional, good camera (digital or not), but as it is, I'm stuck with a throwaway piece of crap which will probably only give me half a roll of good pictures if I'm lucky. Anyway, back to New York. Should be fun - we're going to lots of museums during the day, and all of our nights are free. If anyone can recommend some good stuff we can do during the evenings, that'd be awesome. I know we'll go to at least one Broadway play, and we'll go to Serendipity to try those famous frozen hot chocolates (which they got in that corny movie of the same name). But we need something whacky, if you all catch my drift.

I kind of regret signing up for the trip so I could just have a week to relax, do some work, and get drunk at leaset once. And of course I had to get an eye infection the day before I leave, just to make things really peachy. So I'm stuck in my retarded glasses for a week...

Anyway, c'est tout, and I'm bouncing out. :P

    <lj:music>The Arcade Fire - Oldflame</lj:music>

Ok, I really have nothing to be angry about, so read on if you feel like reading some random shit. So I'm up bright and early to write all 74 of the essays that are due this week. But what did I find myself doing instead? Yeah, that's right. I don't know, I'm just way too restless to accomplish anything of substance this week - I just can't wait until school is finally done, particularly so I don't have to stare at the insular group of Liberal Arts people that is a permanent addition to Penfield basement. Class just seems pointless, for example, what did we do in religion class the other day? Talked about fetishes and redesigned the Rolling Stones slogan so that the tongue has a piece of gum on it.

Downtown yesterday was cool - the Thai place was hilariously dysfunctional. We were talking about how any movie that John Williams (imdb him right now if you don't know who he is!) scores, and that stars Harrison Ford is good. Which is true, (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, even that remake of Sabrina) and fully led me to look some stuff up on imdb at 2 am. I discovered that the longest relationship in Hollywood is between Steven Spielberg and John Williams, and it's nice to see a relationship that can't end in a crazy court battle. Nearly all of the big action movies involve these two crazies. And a random thought on the subject of Indiana Jones: you'd think that with that crazy powerhouse behind it, the first two movies would've been a lot better. I don't know, but the first two just don't measure up to the third one. Whatever.

Anyway, my coffee is cold, which I take as a sign to start my work. Later.

Well, this seems like a good time to start. Except I have nothing to rant about, so I feel all pointless. The other day, I was going to rant about my co-worker's affinity for "accidentally" brushing my butt all the time, but that would've been boring to read about. And it just doesn't look as bad after hearing that Shawna's boss told her that she'd be "a good girl to marry." Shudder.

Alright, so that's that.
